Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 August 2026

This policy explains what personal information this website collects, what we do with it, and what rights you have over it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legal language.

Who we are

This website is run by Knightcott Self Storage. We are the "data controller" for the information described below, which means we are responsible for looking after it.

What we collect, and when

The only personal information this website collects is what you type into the enquiry form, and only when you choose to send it. That is:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number, if you choose to give it — this one is optional
  • What you are looking to store

If you have accepted analytics cookies (see below), we also receive anonymous information about how the site is used — pages viewed, approximate area, device type and how you arrived. This does not identify you, and we never combine it with anything you send us through the form.

Apart from those two things, the website collects nothing about you. We do not keep web access logs.

Cookies and analytics

We set no cookies unless you say yes. When you first visit, we ask whether we may count your visit using Google Analytics. Nothing analytics-related loads until you click Accept — if you choose "No thanks", or simply close the banner, no analytics cookies are set at all and none of what follows applies to you.

If you do accept, Google Analytics sets cookies on your device that give your browser a random identifier so it can tell one visit from another. These last up to two years. It records which pages you look at, roughly where in the country you are (worked out from your internet connection, not precisely), what kind of device and browser you use, and how you arrived — for example from a Google search. It does not tell us who you are.

We use this only to understand how many people visit and which pages are useful, so we can improve the site. We do not use it for advertising and there is no advertising on this site.

You can change your mind at any time using the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of any page. Choosing "No thanks" there stops any further collection.

We set no advertising cookies and nothing follows you to other websites.

Why we use your information, and our lawful basis

We use what you send us for one purpose only: to read your enquiry and reply to it. We may contact you by email or phone to answer your question or discuss a unit.

Under UK data protection law we must have a "lawful basis" for using your information. Ours is legitimate interests — specifically, our interest in responding to an enquiry that you have chosen to send us, which is also the reason you sent it. Where an enquiry leads to you renting a unit, we also use your details to take steps at your request before entering into a contract.

We do not have a mailing list and we will not add you to one. We do not send marketing, and we do not sell or rent your details to anyone. No decisions are made about you automatically.

Who your information is shared with

When you send the form, your message is emailed to info@knightcottselfstorage.uk. It is not saved into any database, customer system or spreadsheet by the website.

That email is sent using Amazon Web Services (AWS), on their servers in London. AWS also hosts this website. AWS acts as our "processor", which means they handle the information strictly on our instructions and for no purpose of their own.

If you have accepted analytics cookies, Google also receives the anonymous usage information described under "Cookies and analytics" above. Google acts as our processor for this, and the information may be handled on servers outside the UK, protected by the safeguards Google is required to have in place for international transfers. Google does not receive anything you type into the enquiry form.

Nobody else receives your information. We do not sell or share it with any other company.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry emails for as long as they are still useful — for example while we are talking to you about a unit, or in case you get back in touch — and then we delete them. We do not keep them indefinitely, and we do not keep them for any fixed period beyond that.

If you would like us to delete your enquiry sooner, just ask and we will.

Links to other websites

This website contains one link to another site: a plain text link to our reviews on Google. If you click it you are taken to Google, and Google's own privacy policy applies to what happens there. Nothing from Google is built into or embedded in our pages, so Google receives nothing about you unless you choose to click that link.

Your rights

You have the right to ask us to:

  • Give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct it if it is wrong or incomplete
  • Delete it
  • Restrict what we do with it
  • Object to us using it

To ask for any of these, email info@knightcottselfstorage.uk, call 01934 822420, or write to us at the address above. It is free, and we will reply within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first and we will do our best to put it right.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we change how any of this works, we will update this page and change the "last updated" date at the top.
